Egg Subsidy Cut by 50% on May 1, Fully Removed by August 1

Egg Subsidy Halved on May 1, Ends Completely on August 1.

Starting May 1, egg subsidies will be reduced by 50%, and fully removed by August 1 as part of the government’s phased subsidy reform. The Agriculture Ministry announced the end of price controls, noting nearly RM2.5 billion had been spent on egg subsidies since 2022 due to COVID-19 and global supply issues. To ease the impact, three support measures will be introduced:
1. Industry will offer premium eggs at reasonable prices.
2. Affordable eggs will be sold via Agro Madani and Rahmah sales nationwide.
3. Authorities will strictly monitor and act against price manipulation.

The public can report egg supply issues via the Agriculture Ministry’s hotline or email. The move follows earlier government efforts to lower egg prices and phase out chicken subsidies.
