Sarawak Officially Exports Electricity to Sabah — A New Era for Borneo’s Energy Network

The first phase delivers 30 megawatts (MW) of power, marking the official operation of the Sarawak–Sabah power interconnection project and opening a new chapter in regional energy cooperation in Borneo.

Official Announcement

The development was revealed by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a speech at a shareholders’ agreement signing ceremony involving Press Metal Aluminium and Capital (Bintulu Development Authority subsidiary).

He said:

“We have already started supplying power to Sabah through the Sarawak grid. Now, we can call it the ‘Borneo Power Grid’, because Sarawak is not only supplying electricity to West Kalimantan, but also investing in North Kalimantan.”

He added that Sarawak’s entry into the Sabah power market begins with 30 MW supplied from its northern grid.
