The Sarawak–Sabah Link Road (SSLR) project will move into its second phase with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for September 11.
Phase Two, valued at RM7.4 billion, covers a distance of 322 km more across challenging mountainous terrain. Once completed, it will provide a direct link between Lawas, Miri, Long Lama, and Sabah, eliminating the need to pass through Brunei. Construction is expected to take at least five years.
Currently, road users traveling between Sarawak and Sabah must pass through Brunei before re-entering Sarawak at Limbang and continuing toward Sabah’s Sipitang district.
The project is considered highly challenging due to its route cutting through multiple mountain ranges, which could impact overall progress.
Phase One of the SSLR has reached 52.27% physical completion and is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2026.
