Miri–Marudi–Mulu–Long Lama (MMMLL) Road Project Summary

New Miri–Marudi–Mulu–Long Lama Road to Be Built in Two Stages

• Travel time cut: Miri to Marudi journey will be reduced from 2–3 hours to just 30 minutes after completion.
• Project cost: Estimated at RM3.8 billion.
• Construction period: 4 years, starting Q3 2025, targeted completion by 2029.

Phase 1:
42 km JKR R5-standard road (Miri Eastwood junction to Marudi) + 68 km JKR R3-standard road (Long Panai to Long Lama).

Phase 2:
76 km JKR R3-standard road (Marudi to Mulu).

• Infrastructure: 23 bridges (9 large, 14 small) and elevated roads in soft soil areas.
• Tourism boost: Travel time from Miri to Mulu cut to 1.5 hours, improving access to Gunung Mulu National Park (UNESCO site).
• Economic impact: Stimulates tourism, trade, and modern agriculture in Miri and Baram divisions.
• Marudi Bridge integration: Eliminates ferry dependence, enabling smoother road connectivity.
• Regional growth: Expected to make Baram a new growth hub in northern Sarawak by 2029.

If the Miri to Marudi trip is reduced to 30 minutes after the MMMLL project, that means the average speed will be much higher than now — likely around 80–90 km/h on the new JKR R5-standard road with no ferry delays and smoother alignment.

For context:
• At 80 km/h, you can cover 40 km in 30 minutes.
• The Eastwood–Marudi section is about 42 km, so the numbers line up with the projected time.

The 68 km stretch (Long Panai to Long Lama) wouldn’t be 30 minutes — that part would still be around 1 hour after completion.
