Gedong International Motorsports Hub Set to Become Sarawak’s First Global-Standard Circuit

Sarawak is moving toward becoming the motorsports hub of Borneo, with plans underway to develop the Gedong International Motorsports Hub, which is set to be the state’s first racetrack built to international standards—hosting F3, motorcycle racing, drifting and other support motorsport events.
The project spans about 600 acres and is led by the state government. Land has been identified and funding allocated, with final approval currently pending. Phase One is targeted to begin construction between 2026 and 2027, positioning Gedong as the main regional venue for motorsports across Borneo.

Economic Impact
According to state motorsports representatives, the racetrack’s value lies not only in hosting races, but in building a wider economic chain:
• Teams, pit crews, technicians & logistics staff
• Traveling spectators and fans
• Families and media delegations
These will boost demand for accommodation, dining, parts, repairs, transport, tyres, workshops and tourism services.
⸻
Strategic Significance
• Positions Sarawak as the motorsports hub of Borneo, attracting teams from Sabah, Kalimantan & Brunei
• Transforms motorsports into a long-term industry—sponsorships, talent development, operations
• Cultivates professional talent: mechanics, technicians, coaches, event specialists
• Accelerates infrastructure & urban development in the Gedong region
• Boosts automotive, tuning, repair and engineering industries in the state
This project has been a motorsports aspiration for 15–20 years, now finally moving toward implementation.
