The Sarawak government has officially gazetted September 15, 2025 (Monday) as a special public holiday in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
According to the Labour Ordinance (Sarawak Cap. 76), employees covered under the law are entitled to this holiday. Employers may:
• Allow employees to take the day off, or
• Designate another day as a replacement holiday. If the replacement day falls on a rest day, the following working day will automatically be the replacement holiday.
For employees required to work on the public holiday, employers must pay the appropriate holiday wages in accordance with the ordinance.
