Malaysia’s First Fully Commercialised AI-Powered Unmanned Mart Launched in Sarawak
A Major Step Toward Smart, Connected Living Under the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.

Sarawak has introduced Malaysia’s first fully commercialised AI-powered Unmanned Mart, located at Baitulmakmur II, Petra Jaya. The launch marks a significant milestone in advancing smart living and digital innovation under the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.
Powered by AI and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and operated by Akayan Solutions Sdn. Bhd., the unmanned mart delivers a 24-hour, fully automated shopping experience — with no queues, no cashiers, and instant cashless payment.
Smart Shopping Made Simple
Customers can access the mart by scanning a QR code through the SBOX AI mobile app, choose their items, and leave once done. Payments are automatically processed via the SBOX AI Wallet, supported by advanced AI cameras, smart shelf sensors, IoT integration, and machine learning algorithms that accurately detect and charge purchased products.
The SBOX AI app, available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, allows users to top up with debit or credit cards, view balances in real time, and track transaction history across participating unmanned outlets.
Driving Digital Transformation
This initiative represents a major step toward Sarawak’s transformation into a cashless, AI-driven economy, aligning with the goals of the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030 and the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).
It also demonstrates how emerging technologies can enhance convenience, efficiency, and sustainability, providing residents with smarter ways to live and shop.
Toward a Smarter, Sustainable Future
This milestone brings Sarawak closer to realizing its Smart City Vision, where everyday life is seamlessly integrated with intelligent, connected solutions.
The AI Unmanned Mart showcases Sarawak’s progress in artificial intelligence, automation, and digital payments — setting a new standard for the retail sector. It embodies the state’s commitment to building a technology-enabled, sustainable ecosystem that empowers communities and strengthens its position as a leader in digital innovation.
