🚧 Why Is Construction Resuming?

Due to serious delays caused by the original contractor,
the relevant authorities have officially terminated the contract.

The Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) will:
• Reappoint a “rescue contractor”
• Reassess completed works
• Carry out valuation and settlement
• Ensure the remaining works proceed in a more systematic, safe, and efficient manner

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts of Sarawak stated that:

• The project’s progress has been closely monitored
• Multiple public complaints were received
• An apology was extended to the public for the inconvenience caused
• The project has not been abandoned

The termination of the original contractor was necessary to ensure the project can continue responsibly and effectively.

Closed for two years due to pump issues, the state government has allocated RM5 million for upgrades, including new facilities and a roof.

The renovation is expected to finish probably in 2025 or later. The project includes pump repairs and a new filter, each costing RM500,000, and a RM4 million roof installation.

Once completed, it will be the second roofed public pool in the state after Bukit Lima Swimming Pool in Sibu. During the closure, various swimming events were postponed or moved.
